Elizabeth Peyton was born in Danbury, USA in 1965. Working primarily in painting, drawing, and printmaking, Peyton is best known for the figures in her own life and those that transcend it, including close friends, historical figures, and representatives of contemporary culture, Peyton’s portraits often feature artists, writers, musicians, and actors.
Elizabeth Peyton’s work is included in the collections of many major institutions, including the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; Centre Pompidou, Paris; The Cranford Collection, Guernsey, England; Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, Germany; Gernwald Museum, Basel; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Museum of Modern Art, New York; The New Museum, New York; Rubell Museum, Miami, Florida; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; St. Louis Art Museum; Seattle Art Museum; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN; Boros Collection, Berlin; and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. The Museum of Modern Art, New York, has acquired approximately 30 drawings and paintings by Peyton over the past 25 years.
