START Star Art Museum will launch the artist’s first solo exhibition in the museum, “Fugu”, on November 5, 2024. This exhibition is the first artist project under the newly launched “Zero Degree Sculpture Project” of START Star Art Museum.
The “Zero Degree Sculpture Project” is the infinite imagination and admiration of the Star Art Museum for human sculpture art. The vision pursued by this action was to try to transcend the usual cognitions, definitions, and historical judgments about sculpture. This is also one of the important directions of the six long-term research works of the Star Art Museum. Star Art Museum uses “zero degrees” as an anchor to carry out research on the future of human sculpture art, which is a long-term project involving breadth and depth, which will surely make this field more practical and creative.
Jing’ao was chosen as the opening exhibition of the “Zero Degree Sculpture Project” because the research on this project is still based on the research of previous sculpture art. All contemporary sculpture creators who are provoking, awakening, and breaking through boundaries will be studied and valued by Star Art Museum as a recent study. Jing Ao is a “non-standard” sculpture artist. In her work, it is difficult to see a clear academic system, or a classic trace of art history. She uses iron sheets, wood, fur, plaster, debris, and everything else that can be considered “rags” as materials to create materials. However, the creation itself is not the reconstruction and empowerment of “found things”, her creation is closer to a discovery, a discovery of the original beauty of ready-made products and the spatial relationship – the return of the light, free, contradictory and simple characteristics. In her creation, the artist not only introduces the form and properties of matter, but also introduces sound and time—she allows all the sounds produced by the collision of materials, and also allows materials to be created or decayed by nature in the process of existence—and it can even be said that this is what she expects. Therefore, Jing Ao’s works have the characteristics of unfathomability and indescribability, requiring the viewer to deeply experience the resonance between the artist and the material through the whole space, and everything that happens here is extremely random and accidental. The artist does not give answers, artists only provide discoveries, and Jing Pride is like this.
This exhibition will display more than 10 sculptures and space installations created by Jing Ao in the past year, which will be displayed in the Star Habitat Plaza of START Star Art Museum and the underground R space.
