The Start Museum Preparatory Team will present the eighth exhibition of Genealogy Study of Artists Tang Yongxiang: Hei Qiao at SSSSTART Research Centre on July 30th, 2021. The exhibition will focus on Tang Yongxiang’s latest work, “A Plant on Green Background (2021)”, and carry out multiple discussions on the artist’s individual cognitive experience and painting methods.
Tang Yongxiang lives and works in Beijing. “Hei Qiao” refers to the art district where the artist worked in his early days in Beijing. The exhibition is Tang Yongxiang’s first solo exhibition in Shanghai. The different context loosens the significance of the work’s title. “Hei Qiao” may no longer be a well-known art district, and its significance will be extended. Tang is used to removing the restrictions of naming places in his works, and is always happy to open more kinds of paths to reading his works.
Tang Yongxiang (b. 1977, Hubei Province) currently lives and works in Beijing.
Exhibitions include major solo shows at Magician Space, Beijing (2020, 2017, 2015, 2014); West Bund Art & Design, Shanghai (2015); Hemuse Gallery, Beijing (2012). Other selected group exhibitions include: Boundless Realities, Multiple Nows – Contemporary Art from Hubei as a Sample, Wanlin Art Museum, Wuhan (2017); Post Wave: Temperament and Avant-garde, The Barn Contemporary Art Space, Shenzhen (2017); Ever Since, Cheng Project, Beijing (2017); Dissensus Agitation – The Painting to Language, Today Art Museum, Beijing (2016); Lehmann Maupin, Hong Kong (2015); Inside – Outside, Klein Sun Gallery, New York (2014); XXX – Next 10 Years of Contemporary Art, Today Art Museum, Beijing (2011).
