Mr. Geng rose to prominence in China in the mid-1980s as an influential member of the avant-garde art movement known as the Eighth Five-Year New Wave, and since then he has tried to foster this resistance with a wide range of techniques — including various forms of painterlature, coloring, lithography, photography, cinematographic conversion, chemical alteration and textual juxtaposing.
