Calvin Marcus, born in 1988 in San Francisco, USA, now lives and works in Los Angeles. His work downplays autobiographical overtones and instead seeks to create artistic images with a carefully constructed formal language and intricate conceptual reflections. His mixed media paintings, sculptures and drawings create iconic images that derive a sense of playfulness in a continuum of variations.
His work is included in the permanent collections of the Astrup Fearnley Museum, Oslo, Norway; the Musée d’Art Moderne, Paris; the K11 Art Foundation, Hong Kong; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
