Safwan Dahoul, as one of the few internationally renowned contemporary artists from Syria, stands as one of the most significant and distinguished painters in the Arab world. The artist excels in portraying alienated and distorted figures through the contrast of light and shadow. Throughout his artistic career spanning over 30 years, he has blended various artistic styles while maintaining his distinct personal artistic qualities and style. His works are influenced by Picasso’s cubist style, while also incorporating elements of Assyrian Art and Pharaonic Art. The artist projects his understanding of humanities, society, politics, and history into the context of “dreams,” exploring visual expressions of alienation, loneliness, and human desires through large-scale ultra-close-up portraits.
